North Bay Orinda School is a private college preparatory school serving grades 7-12. Being a private school they need to continually let people know they are out there and the services they offer. NBOS holds Information Nights about four times a year where they invite parents to come to the school and learn more about what they have to offer. The website expands on this information night by allowing parents to get a feel for the school any time they want. They can read the school newsletter, read about the history of the school, the background of the teachers, the upcoming events, and alumni information. If they want to apply to the school they can print out all the needed forms from the Admissions page. The site was designed to be easy to navigate and the images and quotes give a window into the heart of NBOS. A key feature of the web site was administration and faculty pages. Each teacher is given their own username and password to login to the administration backend where they can easily make changes to the content on their personal page. They can add the assignments for the week, information about an upcoming project, pictures from a recent field trip, or a PDF of information needed for homework. Everything on the site can easily be updated without the need for a Webmaster. This not only helps the school financially, but also helps empower the faculty and staff. Those that have information to place on the site can easily do that themselves they don’t have to constantly request the services of a Webmaster every time a change needs to be made.
